Dog food is rich in nutrients, among which sugars are indispensable nutrients. There are many forms of sugars that are often converted into glucose and metabolized after entering the body. However, there are undoubtedly many substances in dog food that can be converted into sugars.

1. Oligosaccharides

Oligosaccharides (MOS) also have the effect of promoting the growth of beneficial gut microbiota and controlling harmful microbiota, but their mechanisms of action vary. Oligosaccharides mainly originate from the cell wall of yeast cells and can bind to pathogenic bacteria to prevent their adhesion to intestinal cells. Meanwhile, oligosaccharides can enhance the intestinal mucosal immune response by inducing the production of IgA antibodies. Probiotics are not equal to probiotics. Probiotics are a type of bacteria that were initially found in yogurt. They usually have no effect on the body and can be degraded by digestive enzymes in animal bodies.

2. Fructooligosaccharides

Fructooligosaccharides (FOS) are fermentable fibers that can be converted into short chain fatty acids (SCFAs) by bacteria in the intestine. Short chain fatty acids acidify the intestinal environment and promote the growth and reproduction of beneficial bacteria in the intestine. At the same time, short chain fatty acids can directly supply energy in intestinal cells, which helps maintain the health of the intestinal mucosa. But if too much FOS is added, it can cause the feces to become soft and have a high water content.
